RSL send Mathis back to LA, grab Portland midfielder with pick

Real Salt Lake sent veteran midfielder Clint Mathis to the Los Angeles Galaxy along with RSL’s #16 pick in yesterday’s draft in exchange for the #15 pick and a third-round choice in 2011. The defending MLS champions in turn used that pick to select midfielder Collen Warner from the University of Portland, whom Real had been watching for some time.

RSL knock off defending champs»

Going into the Eastern Conference semifinal return leg with a 1-0 advantage from the first match at Rio Tinto Stadium, RSL hoped to press the Columbus Crew and keep them from scoring. That didn’t happen. Instead the visitors spotted the defending champs two goals before Javier Morales got the rally started. Real went on to win the game 3-2 and advance to the Eastern Conference championships.
